Where are you from, originally?

Born in Worcester, raised in Herefordshire.

What's your tipple?

Guinness, real ale, Corona beer, Spanish brandy, single malt whisky, Shiraz wine, any given amount really.

What's your earliest memory?

My mother boxing my ears when I was 4 after I had kicked both of my wellies off into a muddy stream (one after the other).

What was the first record you ever bought with your own money?

"Rory Gallagher" by Rory Gallagher - I didn't even have a record player at the time:  I had to take it round to my mate's house to listen to it.

...and do you still have it?

Yes.

Any hobbies/interests?

Apart from making a loud noise in public - building valve amps, walking, reading (history and crime fiction mostly).

Do you remember the very first gig you went to? What was it like?

Skid Row, with Phil Lynott & Gary Moore in 1971 - amazing/loud, and I couldn't get over the weird long coat/cardigan thing that Gary was wearing on stage.

Worst job you've ever had?

Hanging dead chickens on a rack to go into a freezer at Sun Valley Poultry in Hereford.

What's your claim to fame (not necessarily musical)?

At various times I have met and played the guitars of Rory Gallagher, Mick Green, Wilko Johnson, Zal Cleminson and Anson Funderburgh.

Since 1973.

Been in any bands?

At various times I've played in country-rock, punk, rockabilly, soul and swing bands, but my first love is blues. I've been in Dr Blue and the Prescription for 11 years now.

What first got you interested in the Blues?

Rory Gallagher.

What other types of music do you like to listen to/play?

Swing, Jazz, Cuban Son, Mexican/Spanish guitar.

Favourite Blues artists?

T-Bone Walker.

Favourite artists (any other genre) ?

Chuck Berry.

Ever been lucky enough to meet or share a stage with one of your musical heroes?

See my answer to "Claim to fame" above.  Have also supported Ruby Turner, Gary Moore and 9-Below-Zero. Also had the privilege to sit in with Hash Brown and The Browntones, at their jam at the "Bone" club in Dallas, along with Sam Myers on harp.

38 years of fun and struggle.  (I know, I know... Five words and two digits...)

Most embarrassing moment?

Playing a 20 minute solo to "Hey Joe" on my own (whilst not sober) and not noticing that the rest of the band had walked off-stage and the audience were throwing lighted cigarettes at me.

Proudest moment!

Seeing my daughter Elspeth singing the soprano parts of Handel's Messiah alongside 3 professional singers.

What do you most enjoy about the Blues Jam?

The people.

If you could travel back in time to be present at one moment/event in musical history, what would it be?

Stevie Ray Vaughan at the Carnegie Hall, New York.

Who would they cast to play you in the movie of your life?

Jeff Bridges.
